6 Steps for Preparing for Wedding Day Hair and Makeup

Whether you are the bride, a bridesmaid, or a friend or family member, having your hair and makeup done for a wedding is a special treat -- but remember, it's not the same as a regular day at the salon. To ensure that the wedding day runs smoothly, everyone is done on time, and you have fun, we have outlined six steps to help you prepare.

STEP ONE - Review Preparation Details & Schedule From Your Glam Team

The job of your glam team is to not only make you look and feel beautiful, but they are also there to help make sure that the day is stress-free for everyone. Any good beauty company will help prepare everyone for the big day by sending out detailed instructions and a schedule for hair and makeup services. It is your job to review and adhere to these instructions and schedule so that everyone is done on time and everything goes off without a hitch. Getting all the girls together and getting ready can be one of the most fun parts of the day, as long as everyone is prepared!

STEP TWO - Have Inspiration Photos of Your Hair and Makeup Ready for Your Stylist

If you haven't done a hair or makeup trial before the wedding day, it is important that you have a general idea of what hair and makeup style you are hoping to achieve. If you are a bridesmaid, make sure you have consulted with the bride beforehand to determine if she has any particular style in mind for you. Because everyone's hair & features are different, it is also important that you have more than one inspiration photo available. Your stylist's job is to help guide you towards the best style for your particular hair type and face shape. If you are set on one specific style that may not be the best choice for you, it could result in time delays and could also result in you not being happy with the outcome. Having a general idea of what you like, having different options to choose from, and your willingness to work with your stylist and listen to her advice will help guarantee that everything runs smoothly and you end up loving your look.

STEP 3 - Arrive With Clean, Dry Hair

The common myth is that you should arrive for your hair services with dirty hair, but when hair is too dirty, it makes it challenging to work with and can end up looking greasy. A good stylist can "dirty" your hair with the right product. That said, you know your hair best, and if you feel your hair works best when it isn't freshly washed, one day old is fine. If you aren't sure, however, it is always best to err on the side of caution. One of the biggest threats to ensuring that everything runs on time is when someone arrives with wet hair. Don't assume you will have time to blow dry your hair before your services; make sure your hair is completely dry before arriving.

STEP 4 - Fully Wash and Dry Your Hair Extensions

Hair extensions are a great way to add fullness and volume to your wedding day style, but they must be prepped properly. Brand new extensions have a slick finish that creates a glossy shine, but prevents styling products from taking hold. Alternatively, dirty hair extensions can be overloaded with product and difficult to work with, and can take away from instead of enhancing a beautiful hairstyle. Just like your hair, prepare your hair extensions before the big day by giving them a good wash and making sure they are completely dry before service.

STEP 5 - Arrive With Your Face Clean, Exfoliated, and Moisturized

A smooth, clean canvas is imperative for creating a flawless makeup look. Your makeup needs to last all day, and having your face clean, exfoliated, and moisturized will help ensure a long-lasting look and guarantee that you are camera-ready. While cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing your skin before your makeup services are essential, the wedding day is not the time to experiment with new products. If you want to update your skincare routine, MHD Beauty Cosmetics has many products to choose from to get your skin beautiful and glowing in preparation for the big day. We suggest you experiment with new products 3-6 months before the wedding day. Not quite sure what the right products are for you? Reach out, and we would be happy to guide you in your selection.

STEP 6 - Groom Your Brows and Facial Hair

Your eyes will undoubtedly be the focal feature of your wedding day makeup, so you don't want to take away from that by having shaggy or ungroomed brows. Just like having clean, glowing skin will lay the foundation for beautiful, long-lasting makeup, beautifully groomed brows will open up your eyes and create a flawless foundation for your eye makeup. In the months before the wedding, consult with a brow artist to create the perfect arch to accent your eyes and face, and then the day before the wedding, make sure and touch up any scraggly hairs. While your brows require the most care and attention, don't forget about your facial hair. A good dermaplaning tool can remove unwanted facial hair and leave your skin looking and feeling smooth.
